Introducing GainSeeker DMS

The QA/S GainSeeker® Defect Management System is a comprehensive software system that can help you identify and eliminate the root causes of errors and defects in your business.

Defect management techniques work in almost any environment where quality is counted, but not measured.  They have been applied successfully in the plastics, electronics, and automotive and service industries. Managing defects helps you reduce cycle time and costs associated with scrap and rework.

Managing defects

A defect is any occurrence or result that does not satisfy the customer.

You should manage defects for three reasons:

  1. Defects add cost (not value) to your product. When defects occur, you increase cycle time—the time it takes for a product to move through all the stages of the manufacturing process. If you can reduce scrap, rework, overage and overtime, you can lower the cost per unit (and increase the profitability) of your product.

  2. Defects add time and expense to the manufacturing process. If you find defects early in your operation, you reduce the time (and money) you put into processing defective products. Workers will not be spending time on units that ultimately become scrap.

  3. Defects create bad customer relations. Reducing defects in your product reduces the number of times customers will return or be dissatisfied with your product. Satisfied customers build a good reputation for your product and result in more repeat sales.

The Defect Management System gives you the data entry, analysis, charting and reporting tools you need to minimize the defects in your production system. These include three types of charts:

Control chart

Control charts show you if your process is in control.

Pareto chart

Pareto charts can show you your biggest problem area.

The drill-down process lets you find the root cause of the problem.

DPU chart

DPU charts show your improvement goal.

They also show the improvement of your process.
